Wonderful Cards by Josefa Laura Fernandez

A few weeks ago, I randomly found Josefa Laura Fernandez’s blog and was struck by how unusual her cards were, as well as the amount of time and patience it must have taken to make them. I was so intrigued, I asked if I could ask her a few questions and I’d like to share with you her charming story.

Since she was a little girl, Josefa Laura’s mom motivated her to study art, the result of which was that Josefa Laura became a painter. Josefa Laura only started card crafting a few months ago, but in that short space of time, she has managed to make cards that are completely unique to her.

She started by looking on the Internet for other cards, but when she went to buy paper to make the cards, it was very difficult to find any materials. Then, Josefa Laura saw a video from Tassycrafty from the UK which helped her a lot. She wrote to them and not only did Tassycrafty kindly help answer her questions, but since there was a lot of different kinds of paper easily available in London, Tassycrafty also sent Josefa Laura her some paper and other materials. With these, Josefa Laura was able to do all the things she had in her mind.

In addition to the support received from Tassycrafty, Josefa Laura also counts on the support of her good friend, Moni Ustravarja from Slovenia who always, day by day, motivates Josefa Laura to do her crafts.

Josefa Laura’s cards in which she draws multiple people take her all day to create. She tries to make them all look like the individuals so she uses photos to help her do this. She usually gets the idea to make the cards when she knows an event is coming up. Josefa Laura now has so many different examples of her past work on her site that there have been several occasions when her sister has called her with a request for a scene to make for someone special. She and her sister laugh a lot when they are planning a card because they always really live in the moment and enjoy themselves thoroughly!

Josefa Laura is passionate about crafts and new ideas are always coming to her. Any craft she sees and tries to make, she always tries to inject her own personal style into it. She was born in Mexico City and now lives in a small city nearby, named Queretaro, Mexico. She is 55 years old, is married, has two children and a grandson.
