Show your Valentine your love by making them homemade chocolates. Anyone can buy a box of chocolates, but only the few will spend the time to making something completely unique for their sweetie.
If you don’t already own chocolate making forms, look around your kitchen. I used a rubber ice cube tray to make these which was actually easier than using a hard plastic form because you could peel the soft rubber away from the chocolate once hardened.
The professional way to make handmade chocolates involves thermometers and a lot of fuss. The quick & cheeky way of making chocolates is to snap off a few squares of plain chocolate from your favorite bar. Put it in a cup and microwave until soft. Pour into the tray and jiggle the mold or tray so as much of the surface is covered as possible. Use a small clean paintbrush to paint the chocolates up the side of the surface. Let cool so it hardens. Throw it in the fridge if you’re in a rush. Repeat this step until you have an even chocolate shell.
For the filling, I melted butterscotch chips and poured these into the shell. Other lip-smacking fillings are dried fruit, such as cranberries, apricots, papaya, pineapple, mango, raisins, and even kiwi. Another idea is to layer the chocolate – Dark, milk, and white. It’s easy and so visually effective. Just melt and pour in layers.
