Cool Cocktails

While the kids enjoy the animal balloons, you can have some fun with a slightly different twist – cocktails! For the kick-off issue, we thought we’d bring you a collection of cocktails inspired by London.

London Fog
1 cup hot chocolate
Whipped cream
Chocolate biscuit
1 ½ oz. Kahlua

Pour Kahlua and hot chocolate into a warmed mug and stir well. Top with a generous serving of whipped cream and biscuit. A scoop of vanilla ice cream also makes a delicious alternative.

Jack-The-Gripper
1 750 ml bottle of applejack or calvados
3 lemons
¼ cup maple syrup, sugar syrup, or honey
1 oz. ginger flavored brandy
½ oz. Angostura bitters (optional)
Cinnamon sticks
Boiling water

In a pan over a direct flame, heat applejack, juice of the three lemons, and syrup. Stir until the syrup is dissolved. Add cinnamon, bitters, brandy, and some lemon peel. Stir well and ignite. Extinguish flames after a few moments by adding some boiling water or using a pan lid. Makes approximately 8 servings.

Lord Rodney
1 ½ oz. whiskey
¾ oz. Jamaica rum
1 tsp. coconut syrup
Splash of white crème de cacao

Mix all ingredients with cracked ice in a shaker or blender. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

London Fog II
½ oz. white crème de menthe
½ oz. anisette
Scoop of vanilla ice cream
Chocolate mint

In a blender, mix all ingredients with cracked ice for a few seconds. Take care not to over mix. Pour into a chilled parfait glass. Garnish with a chocolate mint on the rim of the glass.
