Dutch Snowball

A trip to the Netherlands isn’t complete without trying the locally made Advocaat. Similar to egg nog, it’s made with egg yolks and sugar, but it’s a bright yellow color. One of the most popular drinks to use it in is a Dutch Snowball, not to be confused with an American Snowball. This is often consumed at Christmas time in England. To make one, you will need:
Dutch Snowball
½ - 1 teaspoon lime cordial
2 ½ ozs Advocaat
5 ½ oz fizzy lemonade
Pour the lime cordial and Advocaat into a glass. Top with fizzy lemonade. Use Schweppes lemonade if possible. This is a fizzy clear drink similar to 7-Up, but with more lemons. Kind of like Slice. Is that even made anymore? Anyway, this is not meant to be made with lemonade like Country Time lemonade. That would probably be nice too, but it’s a different cocktail. A Dutch Snowball should taste tart and sweet all at once.
A variation of this for true lemon lovers is a Dutch Lemon. This is made with:
Dutch Lemon
5 drops lemon juice
2 ½ ozs. Advocaat
5 ½ ozs. Lemonade
Lemon peel twister
This is even more tart for when you’re feeling a bit tangy. First drop the lemon juice in the glass, add the Advocaat and top with lemonade. Again, the Schweppes kind. Garnish with the lemon peel twister.
